MOSCOW, July 29. The world's largest pharmaceutical companies paid Russian doctors 652.6 million rubles in 2023, which is 17 percent less than a year earlier, RBC writes, citing reports from members of the Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers.
«The most significant reduction in the amount of payments was demonstrated by three companies: American GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Japanese Takeda and Danish Novo Nordisk. All of them reduced the «transfer of values» almost completely. Takeda and Novo Nordisk, according to their reports, made payments to only one doctor each — about 40 thousand and 11 thousand rubles, respectively. And the American Gilead Sciences, which closes the top ten largest foreign companies by revenue, did not report payments to a single Russian healthcare specialist,» the article specifies.
The publication indicates that the German Bayer paid doctors the most in 2023 — 230.6 million rubles. However, in 2022, this amount was 336.6 million rubles, which means that payments fell by 30 percent.
The company told RBC that the cut in payments to Russian doctors is due to a change in their approach to work.
Earlier, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that Russia has significant competencies in pharmaceuticals and if any foreign company leaves the Russian market, the government may decide to launch its own production of a similar drug.
