The final version of the Atom interior retained the original ideas of the designers shown last year on the prototype, including a steering wheel with a built-in touch screen and side doors that swing open in different directions.
Since 2021, the development of the Atom electric vehicle has been carried out by JSC Kama, headquartered in Naberezhnye Chelny, technological support for the project is provided by KAMAZ and the state corporation Rosatom, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) recently became one of the key investors in the project. Through the RDIF's Chinese office in Harbin, the Chinese corporation XY Group (Xuan Yuan) has been involved in the Atom project: last week it was announced that it would help establish the production of Atom electric vehicles in China, but the specific site and start date for production have not yet been named. In Russia, production of Atom electric vehicles is scheduled to begin in 2025 at the Moskvich plant.

Atom is a subcompact urban cross-hatchback (overall length — 3995 mm, ground clearance — 170 mm), which is based on a platform of its own design with a single- or dual-motor power plant. The front suspension is McPherson type, the rear is independent multi-link. The debut version of the Atom will have a single 204-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle and a 77 kWh battery, a full charge of which will last for about 500 km.

The developers showed the prototype of the Atom in the spring of last year, and last February a pre-production version of the exterior design was presented. Today, the press service of the Atom project published the final version of the interior, that is, the car will go into production in this form — if there are any changes, they will be minor, due to the optimization of technological processes.

As expected from the start, the Atom's interior is designed in the spirit of minimalism, there are very few physical buttons and no visual noise, but there is a feeling of spaciousness, despite the modest external dimensions. The feeling of spaciousness is facilitated by the absence of central pillars of the body: the rear doors open in the opposite direction to the front, the door locks are located on the thresholds and roof.

There are only four seats in the cabin — the rear sofa is molded for two passengers, two cup holders and two USB-C ports for powering gadgets are built into the folding central armrest. There are Isofix mounts for installing child seats. The front seats have integral headrests, seat belts are built into the backrests, and electric adjustments are standard. Between the front seats there is an armrest box with cup holders. All seats and the steering wheel are heated. The upholstery is combined, made of fabric and eco-leather, and there are two color schemes — light and dark. The trunk volume is 345 l, with the rear seat backs folded down – 1020 l.

The front panel has a full-width textile insert, and only four physical buttons in the center — they control the powertrain modes, a tray with wireless charging for two smartphones is located on the floor below, and there are two USB-C ports even lower. The role of the instrument panel is performed by a projection screen on the windshield, and all service settings and multimedia functions are sewn into the touch screen located above the steering wheel hub. The screen rotates with the steering wheel, so using it while driving will not always be convenient. There are no steering column paddles, turn signals, wipers and headlights are turned on by buttons on the steering wheel spokes. Multifunctional joysticks are also located on the steering wheel spokes.

The Atom's overhead console houses the ERA-GLONASS unit, the hazard warning button, and the hazard warning pictogram unit. The interior rearview mirror has a built-in video recorder and a rearview camera screen. There is another camera on the left front pillar — it is needed to identify the driver. Customizable LED ambient lighting is integrated into the dashboard, ceiling, and doors. This lighting is synchronized with the driver's electronic assistants, meaning it can change color to, for example, warn the driver of danger. There are six airbags: two frontal, two side and two window airbags, designed for the entire length of the cabin.
We will add that the price of the Atom has not been officially announced, and the estimated range from 2.5 million to 3.5 million rubles can be adjusted taking into account inflation and other factors.
