MOSCOW, July 25 The State Duma, in a resolution following a government hour with Roscosmos CEO Yuri Borisov, recommended that the Russian government provide funding for a project to create a lunar power station with a nuclear power plant.
«To provide financial support for the creation of a lunar power station with a nuclear power plant within the framework of the federal project «Development of Space Nuclear Energy in Russia,» the resolution says.
The Cabinet of Ministers is also recommended «to determine the volume and procedure for financing the project to create nuclear power plants in outer space for the purposes of space exploration.»
Borisov said in early March that Roscosmos, together with its Chinese colleagues, is considering the delivery and installation of a nuclear power plant on the surface of the Moon in 2033-2035.
In early May, the head of Roscosmos said that the development of a nuclear power plant for this project had already begun.
