MOSCOW, July 31 Volodymyr Zelensky did not know the Ukrainian language and mocked it, journalist and writer Yevgeny Dodolev claims in an interview with Argumenty i Fakty.
«He did not know Ukrainian at all, said that if he wanted to laugh, he would turn on a film in the mova (Ukrainian language. — Ed.), told jokes about roguli,» Dodolev said, recalling meetings with Zelensky in 2012-2013.
The journalist also said that Zelensky did not speak particularly well of the residents of Western Ukraine at that time.
«»I happened to sit with him at the same table several times table. Zelensky despised the Westerners, residents of Western Ukraine, calling them anti-Semites and saying that they were cretins,» the writer claims.
After the coup d'etat in Ukraine in 2014, the country's authorities began to fight not only Soviet history, but also everything related to Russia, including the Russian language. In 2019, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law «On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language.» It implies that citizens should use Ukrainian in all spheres of life. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov previously stated that the Ukrainian authorities had been pursuing a course of aggressive de-Russification and forced assimilation for many years, while international organizations ignored discrimination against national minorities, especially against Russian people.
