MOSCOW, July 31 Russian President Vladimir Putin personally congratulated Prabowo Subianto on his election as President of Indonesia.
«We are very glad to see you. Once again, I congratulate you, this time personally, on your election as President and I want to wish you all the best in serving your country and your people,» Putin said at a meeting with the elected President of Indonesia.
Subianto won the February elections in Indonesia. He will be inaugurated on October 20.
In June 2023, Subianto proposed a plan for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. It included the creation of a demilitarized zone on the contact line and the deployment of UN peacekeepers there. He also called for «no blame to be placed on any of the parties» in the conflict. Subianto's plan was almost immediately rejected by Kiev, which branded it «pro-Russian.» Subianto re-proposed his plan this year, after which the initiative was again rejected personally by Volodymyr Zelensky.
