Dealers are already accepting orders for the restyled crossover, although there are no trim levels or prices yet. And the manufacturer has not yet talked about the technology.
A few years ago, the Malaysian company Proton came under the control of the Geely Auto holding. So it is not surprising that models made from «Chinese» appeared in the range of this brand. The first-born was the Proton X70 crossover, that is, the previous generation Geely Boyue/Atlas. Then the junior SUV Proton X50 debuted, also known as the pre-reform Geely Binyue/Coolray. And last year, the range was expanded with the three-row Proton X90 crossover and the Proton S70 sedan, created on the basis of the Geely HaoYue/Okavango and Geely Emgrand respectively. And now Proton has announced a restyled version of the very first borrowed model — the X70 SUV.

The basis was the 2019 Geely Boyue for China, and in Russia, the Geely Atlas with a similar design and the Pro prefix appeared in 2021 (by the way, in our country it is now the Belgee X70). The Proton X70 received a similar front bumper and LED headlights. In addition, the «Malaysian» got a radiator grille of the same shape. At the same time, the grille itself is designed in the new Proton corporate style: it flaunts many chrome diamonds, like the X90 crossover and S70 sedan. The «seventies» were also assigned a different rear bumper — and it is also original. Finally, the Proton X70 is equipped with 19-inch wheels of a new design.

The interior features a modernized front panel and a different steering wheel. The Proton X70 also received a new multimedia system with a 12.3-inch tablet (the pre-reform crossover had an 8-inch display). Moreover, the screen is attached to the panel, while the Geely Boyue/Atlas Pro has a touchscreen built into it. The X70 is also promised to have an improved set of safety systems, but there are no details yet.

Proton also did not talk about the technology of the updated crossover. Many Malaysian specialized media believe that she is the same. The pre-restyling Proton X70 is offered with a 1.5 petrol turbo three (177 hp) and a 1.8 turbo four (184 hp), both engines are combined with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. All-wheel drive is only available for the 1.5T crossover. However, some local media still predict that the X70 with a one and a half liter engine will receive a technical update — a 48-volt starter-generator (the Geely Atlas Pro and Belgee X70 crossovers intended for the Russian Federation are also “mild” hybrids).

A full presentation of the restyled Proton X70 will be held in Malaysia a little later. At the same time, applications are already open there, albeit without prices. A pre-reform crossover, in terms of local currency at the current exchange rate, now costs somewhere between 1.86 rubles.
