ST. PETERSBURG, Aug. 2The families of those killed in the emergency on the White Sea-Baltic Canal (BBK) in Karelia, where a temporary bulkhead between the locks installed during the reconstruction of a wooden dam washed away, will receive 1 million rubles each, the head of the republic, Artur Parfenchikov, said.
“We will provide financial assistance to the families of those killed and injured in the accident on the BBC. I have signed an order to allocate funds from the reserve fund of the republic’s government. The families of the victims will receive 1 million rubles each,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
As Parfenchikov specified, the victims of the accident on the White Sea Canal will be paid from 100 thousand to 500 thousand rubles, depending on the severity of the injuries. The loss of essential property will also be compensated, the payments will amount to 50-100 thousand rubles.
On Monday morning, in the Segezha District of Karelia, a temporary bulkhead between the 10th and 11th locks of the White Sea Canal, installed during the reconstruction of a wooden dam, washed out. During the search, the bodies of three people missing after the accident were found. A state of emergency has been declared in the district. Shipping on the White Sea-Baltic Canal section and transit through the canal have been temporarily suspended.
According to the republican department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, seven people were injured in the incident, of whom two children and one adult were hospitalized.
