Security forces came with searches to the Karelian journalist Valery Potashov and to the editorial office of the publication where he worked

FSB officers have come to search the home of journalist Valery Potashov and the editorial office of the Stolitsa na Onego publication in Karelia. This was reported by From Karelia with freedom and Karelia.News.

The editor-in-chief of Stolitsa na Onego, Tatyana Sokolova, told Karelia.News that the searches at the editorial office are related to Potashov, who worked at the publication until 2023.

“Everything is very correct and respectful. FSB officers are checking the editorial office’s computers. <…> Officially, these actions, according to the resolution, are called an inspection of the premises,” Sokolova said.

It is unknown what the searches at Potashov’s place are related to. There have been no reports of a criminal case against him. Today, the journalist was supposed to work at the last court hearing on the Karelian prosecutor's lawsuit to recognize the actions of the Finns during the occupation of Karelia as genocide, writes Novaya Gazeta, with which Potashov also cooperates.

On July 19, the Karelian FSB department reported «attempts to bribe» journalists, bloggers and public figures «to prepare anti-Russian content in connection with the court's consideration of the issue of recognizing the genocide of the peoples of the USSR by Finland during the Great Patriotic War.» The department threatened criminal cases of treason.
