MOSCOW, August 2 The transfer of responsibility for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) direction to the Russian Ministry of Digital Development within the framework of the Data Economy national project will speed up the implementation of the technology in the economy, social sphere and public administration, the office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko.
On Thursday, the Russian Cabinet transferred responsibility for the development of the «Artificial Intelligence» direction to the Ministry of Digital Development, which was previously the responsibility of the Ministry of Economic Development. 
< br />«The decision to transfer the federal project under the supervision of the relevant ministry is aimed at accelerating the implementation of AI technologies in the economy, social sphere and public administration. In particular, it is assumed that this measure will facilitate the synchronization of programs to support the digital industry by placing these issues under the jurisdiction of one curator,» the statement says.
The changes will come into force on September 1, 2024. The corresponding government decree has been signed.
The office explained that all the activities included in the federal project are preserved: they will continue to be implemented by the executors assigned by the project — the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Digital Development and other responsible departments.
They recalled that the federal project «Artificial Intelligence» is aimed at creating conditions for the use of products and services by enterprises and citizens based primarily on domestic AI technologies, providing a qualitatively new level of efficiency.
