Belarus has declared its commitment to the NPT and nuclear disarmament

MINSK, August 2 Belarus remains committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and nuclear disarmament, the Belarusian delegation said during the second session of the preparatory committee for the NPT Review Conference in Geneva.
«Belarus remains committed to the NPT and nuclear disarmament,» the Telegram channel of the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the UN Office in Geneva quotes the theses of the Belarusian delegation's speech.

It says that at the session «Belarus stated the following: progress in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation is possible only if all NPT member states are unconditionally committed to the goal of common, comprehensive and indivisible security.»
«Today… a compromise and the ability of NPT member states to work together for this priority are difficult to achieve due to acute geopolitical contradictions,» the report says.
It is emphasized that «the group of Western countries is not ready to take into account the interests of all states both within the framework of the NPT and in the broader and more comprehensive context of universal and regional security.» «A general compromise is possible only if the interests and concerns of states are taken into account — Russia, China, Iran — which bear the enormous burden of universal and regional security on their shoulders, including nuclear security, especially in Eurasia, where the most dangerous armed conflicts are currently taking place,» the report says.

«For Belarus, the need for political will from all stakeholders is obvious in order to begin moving towards normalization and honest, constructive dialogue,» the permanent mission added.
