MOSCOW, August 2 Sales of Lada cars in Russia in July increased by 28% year-on-year to 37.6 thousand units, AvtoVAZ said in a statement.
“The company sold a total of 37,645 vehicles, including 19,796 Granta passenger cars, 8,419 Vestas, 757 Larguses, 7,899 NIVA family vehicles, and 774 light commercial vehicles. The total sales for July 2024 are 28% higher than the results for July 2023, but 5% lower than the previous month, which is within the seasonal fluctuations in demand,” the company reported on July sales.

At the same time, AvtoVAZ emphasized that the sales plan for July was 40.2 thousand Lada cars and was fulfilled by 94% due to ongoing changes in the structure of the Russian automobile market. The automaker pointed to a drop in sales of the most equipped versions of the Lada Vesta, in which about 5 billion rubles were invested in «localization and restoration of comfort and safety options.»

The trend is, among other things, due to the fact that 85% of Vesta sales in high trim levels were carried out using credit products, which today have become much less accessible, the company notes.
AvtoVAZ is also observing the continuing price expansion of Chinese manufacturers, who, using a rich arsenal of national benefits and preferences, currently control about 90% of the Russian passenger car market in financial terms. Having the opportunity to compensate for discounts in Russia at the expense of profits in the large domestic and export markets, foreign brands continue to squeeze domestic manufacturers into the least marginal segments of cars with minimal equipment,» the company emphasized.

In this regard, they reiterated the need to index the recycling fee and the importance of continuing the preferential leasing and auto loan programs.
«AvtoVAZ» … always plays the «long game» responsibly and is aimed at preserving and developing the domestic auto industry. Stimulating foreign investment in our automobile, component or any other industry by increasing protective barriers against direct and hidden imports today, tomorrow makes the Russian industry stronger and more technologically sovereign. Yes, this often takes time and unpopular decisions, but they all correspond to national goals and the industry development strategy,” said the head of the company, Maxim Sokolov.
