MOSCOW, August 3 Senator Dmitry Savelyev testified as a witness in the case of Sergei Ionov for embezzlement of 1.6 million rubles. Ionov was an adviser to the general director in 2018. «Optomonitoring», where the senator was a co-founder, follows from the case materials that are at the disposal of .
As stated in the materials, in 2018, Sergey Ionov held the position of advisor to the general director of Optomonitoring LLC, where Savelyev was a co-founder. 
The crime was committed in 2018. According to the materials, Ionov gave a confession, according to which “he received funds in the total amount of 1.6 million rubles for business trips, but he spent these funds on his own needs.”
«The testimony of witness Dmitry Vladimirovich Savelyev (co-founder of Optomonitoring LLC») fully confirms the testimony of the convicted S.V. Ionov about the circumstances of the theft of funds,” the documents say.
In the summer of 2022, the court found Ionov guilty of embezzlement under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Initially, the Presnensky Court of Moscow sentenced Ionov to 3 years in a general regime penal colony, but later the Moscow City Court reduced it to 2.5 years.
Earlier it became known that Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov appealed to the Federation Council with a motion to strip Senator Dmitry Savelyev of immunity in connection with the establishment of his involvement in organizing the murder. The Federation Council agreed to lift Savelyev's immunity. As reported by the head of the Federation Council Committee on Regulations Vyacheslav Timchenko, Savelyev was asked to leave the meeting room and was detained on his way out.

According to the Investigative Committee, in August 2023, Savelyev ordered his acquaintance to kill an entrepreneur he disliked. Law enforcement agencies found out about this, and a staged murder was organized in order to expose the criminals. After receiving information about the alleged murder, Savelyev gave his accomplice a reward. The case was opened under Part 3 of Article 33, Part 1 of Article 30, paragraph «z» of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization of preparation for murder).
His house was searched; the senator's family was preparing for his birthday at the time of his arrest; the senator turns 56 on August 3.
