The Federation Council, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, has stripped its member Dmitry Savelyev of immunity, another senator, Vyacheslav Timchenko, told TASS.
Savelyev was detained as he left the meeting.
Representatives of the prosecutor's office clarified that their claims against Savelyev are related to «establishing his involvement in organizing the murder.»
Savelyev, a member of United Russia, was a State Duma deputy from 1999 to 2016, and then moved to the Federation Council as a representative of the Tula Region.
According to his biography on the TASS website, before becoming a deputy, Savelyev fought in Afghanistan and was a top manager of several oil companies in the 1990s, including the president of Transneft.
