Kamnev did not participate in the meeting. Lawyer Mikhail Minakov did not specify where exactly his client was at that moment — in the hospital or somewhere else.
During the escape from the cell, another prisoner, a student from Astrakhan Malik Gandaloev, was detained almost immediately, so he did not directly participate in the hostage-taking. The court sent Gandaloev to a pretrial detention center on charges of escaping from custody with the use of violence (Part 3 of Article 313 of the Criminal Code). The Telegram channel Mash claimed that during the arrest, he wounded the detention center employees with a sharpened object. On July 23, the court sentenced Gandaloev in his first case — for participation in ISIS. The student was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The Sova Research Center, which monitors the activities of the far-right, reported that Daniil Kamnev used to be a Nazi skinhead. According to the center, in 2013 he was sentenced to nine years in prison under the article on intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm (Article 111 of the Criminal Code). The reason for this was the participation of the former Nazi skinhead in a fight that resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man. The Shot Telegram channel wrote that Kamnev hit him on the head with a bat. In the colony, Kamnev converted to Islam and changed his name to Hamza, and after his release, he lived in Kislovodsk for some time.
In the case of participation in the At-Takfir Wal-Hijra movement and preparation of terrorist attacks, the court today also sentenced Timurlan Goguev, Anzor Kakhunov, Makhach Bashirov, Gegham Rostomyan, and Sabila Mamedova. They were sentenced to seven to 19 years in prison.
According to the court, in 2017, Goguev held «meetings and meetings with like-minded people and acquaintances in mosques in Kislovodsk, promoted the ideology of this association, and involved Rostomyan, Bashirov, Kakhunov, and Kamnev in their implementation.»
The verdict states that in 2019, Goguev and Rostomyan «in the presence of mosque parishioners» accused a State Duma deputy who was conducting a prayer of unbelief. All four, the decision says, provided assistance to the Islamic State by providing money to its members.
The investigation claimed that Kamnev had the intention of blowing up the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs department in Kislovodsk, for which he studied materials on weapons and explosives and purchased components for a homemade explosive device. Kamnev involved Mamedova in preparing the terrorist attack. They lived in the same place and made two homemade explosive devices, the court said. They were detained on April 2, 2021.
