MOSCOW, August 3 Possible interaction in the mining industry will be another area of beneficial cooperation between Russia and Tanzania, but requests from Russian companies for exploration and production no diamonds have been received yet, Russian Ambassador to Tanzania Andrei Avetisyan said in an interview.
«Despite the fact that we have not yet received requests from Russian companies, I am confident that possible interaction in this industry will become another area of beneficial bilateral cooperation,» Avetisyan said.
«Constructive interaction in the global diamond market has become another point of contact between the countries… Against the backdrop of ongoing attempts by Western countries to discredit the corresponding Russian products at various international venues, trying to include them in the category of «diamonds from conflict regions,» the Tanzanians maintain a healthy approach and, like us, oppose the unjustified politicization of the Kimberley Process, which regulates this market,» the ambassador emphasized.
He recalled that in 2022, Moscow became the first and still remains the only non-African country to receive observer status in the Association of African Diamond Producers. According to him, this makes the interaction of the two countries in this area «even closer and more coordinated.» The Russian diplomat noted that the decision to do so was made at an extraordinary meeting of the council of ministers of the association, which was held in Tanzania.
Avetisyan added that diamond mining is one of the priorities of the mining industry in Tanzania. The diamonds mined there are usually of high quality, with a reputation for being well processed and having excellent transparency, the ambassador concluded.
