MOSCOW, August 3 Traffic on the Ulan-Ude — Chita road section has been stopped for approximately 24 hours due to the difficult flood situation, said Alexey Tsydenov, head of Buryatia.
«As a result of heavy rainfall and rising water levels, sections of the federal road Ulan-Ude — Chita have been washed away. At kilometer 589, a section of the road has been completely washed away. On three bridges — these are the Tugnui, Sukhara and Khonkholoika rivers — bridges have been washed away, approaches to the bridges have been washed away. As a result, traffic has been stopped. Approximately for a day, but there is a possibility that restoration work will take longer,» he wrote on the Telegram channel. 
Tsydenov noted that there is an alternative detour — the regional road Ulan-Ude — Romanovka — Chita, and called on all drivers to choose alternative detour routes.
Earlier, it was reported that in Tarbagatai District, more than 370 household plots and 10 houses were flooded. People lost their crops and livestock. In Zaigraevsky District, 30 plots and three private houses were flooded. 10 people, including two children, were evacuated and placed in temporary accommodation. The railway infrastructure was under threat, but the East Siberian Railway anti-washout train carried out all necessary measures to strengthen the slopes and embankments.
Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the region reported worsening weather in the republic on August 1-4 — heavy rains, showers, hail, and winds up to 24 meters per second. Later, a state of emergency at the republican level was introduced in Buryatia.
