MOSCOW, August 4 The idea of creating a new federal district in the Russian Federation based on Crimea and new regions is not currently being discussed, and the configuration has not been developed, a source in the new regions said.
«No, it is not being discussed. There is no configuration either,» the agency's source said, answering the question of whether they have begun to discuss this idea and whether the district's configuration has appeared.
Earlier, Zaporizhia Oblast Governor Yevgeny Balitsky reported in an interview at the SPIEF that a new federal district will be created in Russia in the near future, which will include Crimea, the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhia and Kherson Oblasts. He noted that the issue is being worked out at the federal level.
According to two sources in one of the new regions, there is no final configuration of the new federal district, as well as no decision on the timing of its creation. According to one of the agency's interlocutors, «sooner or later there will be a district,» but when this will happen — «in a year, in two or three» — is still unknown. During a briefing following the spring session, Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko also reported that the idea of a new district appearing in the Russian Federation cannot be ruled out, «but not today.» According to her, «life is in full swing» in the new regions: «the Russian government, parliament, and the presidential administration are paying a lot of attention to this.»
