He died a sapper's death
A powerful explosion thundered on Tuesday afternoon in a five-story building in western Moscow. Neighbors were wrong to blame the gas — a grenade, presumably, exploded in a two-room apartment. The owner of the munition died on the spot.
As the MK reporter found out at the scene, the victim of the explosion was a 62-year-old retired military man. He had lived in this house for a long time, at one point with his parents, then the old people moved to the next building. Yesterday afternoon, the man was left alone for a short time — his wife went to the clinic (the children and grandchildren move to the dacha in the summer). During this short period, the explosion occurred. The shock wave blew out the windows in the apartment. Having gone up to the house, the rescuers found the poor man in a semi-sitting position near the sofa; he died on the spot from his injuries. In all likelihood, the explosion was caused by a combat grenade, but whether it was an accident or something else, investigators have yet to determine.
The deceased was a hereditary military man; his ancestors were also connected to the army. The Muscovite himself graduated from a military academy in Belarus, served in the air defense, and retired from the Armed Forces in the early 2000s. His colleagues recall that the man served in Afghanistan, had many awards, was even wounded, and was constantly treated in military hospitals. Apparently, the officer brought the dangerous souvenir from there. In recent years, he worked as a manager of the household department in a well-known chain store, and his wife was in charge of receiving products there. But not long ago, due to health problems, the retiree retired to babysit his grandchildren. And this year, the retiree was struck down by rheumatism, and began having problems with his head.
