MOSCOW, August 6 Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Serhiy Rebrov said at a meeting of the committee of national teams of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) that he is ready to leave his post if the results shown by the team at Euro 2024 do not satisfy anyone.
The Ukrainian national team took the last place in its group at the European Championship, which was held in Germany in the summer. In Group E, the Ukrainians suffered a crushing defeat from the Romanian team (0:3), defeated the Slovaks (2:1) and drew with the Belgians (0:0).
«I agreed to sign a three-year contract, for two qualifying rounds. If someone is not satisfied now, then I am ready to leave. But I talked to (UAF head) Andriy Shevchenko, the next round is very important. If I see that I am not doing well, then I will not sit here. Now we need to prove ourselves as a team in this qualifying round. This is not a question of the executive committee or trust. Now there is a contract, I think that we have had a good first year. We need to move on, let's look at the future. I cannot evaluate myself. If you count how many days I have spent with the national team this year, not counting the Euro, then it is less than a month. Looking at the experience of leading teams, I can say that no one signs a coach for one year. This is not enough for the players to even understand your ideas,» the UAF website quotes Rebrov.
«Serhiy Rebrov and his coaching staff, his concept of developing the national teams were given full support. We know where we are heading, what we are doing and why. We have received enough information, we are drawing conclusions. As for the immediate tasks of the national team, we are starting a new two-year qualifying cycle. Its main goal is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Therefore, the task in the Nations League is to perform in such a way that, if necessary, we have an additional chance to qualify for the World Cup,» Andriy Shevchenko said after a meeting of the national teams committee.
Rebrov is 50 years old, he took charge of the Ukrainian national team in June 2023. Previously, he worked at Dynamo Kyiv, with which he won the Ukrainian championship twice, and also led Hungarian Ferencvaros to three championship titles and became the champion of the UAE with Al Ain.
