BERLIN, August 7 A doctor at a palliative care service in Berlin has been charged with murdering four elderly patients and attempting to cover up the crimes by setting them on fire, the German capital's prosecutor general's office said.
«The accused is suspected of having killed four patients in the care of the care service in an as yet unknown manner between June 11 and July 24, and then setting their apartments on fire to cover up the crimes,» the Berlin prosecutor's office said in a statement.
According to the agency, only one of the four cases resulted in a fire when the arson was started. One of the women was resuscitated, but later died in hospital.
It is noted that the 39-year-old doctor arrested on Tuesday was part of a palliative care team caring for elderly patients.
Nothing is known about his motives at this time.
