Italian company Aehra names its debut models and builds a plant

The young Italian company Aehra plans to produce luxury electric cars with monocoque carbon fiber bodies. The first to go into production will be the Impeto crossover and the Estasi sedan, which are scheduled to hit the market in 2026.

The Milan-based company Aehra first announced itself publicly in 2022, founded by two Italians — an expert in theoretical physics and applied mathematics Hazim Nada and an engineer and entrepreneur Sandro Andreotti. The name Aehra comes from the Latin word aera, which means air and starting point, that is, a new era in the interpretation of the startup's creators. The design of the debut Aehra models was developed by Filippo Perini, a former Lamborghini employee, and Franco Cimatti, who previously worked at Ferrari and Lotus, was invited to the position of chief designer.

Aehra showed the crossover prototype in 2022, the sedan prototype in 2023, until now they had no names, now they do: the crossover is called Impeto (translated from Italian into Russian as «pressure», «inspiration»), the sedan received the name Estasi («delight», «ecstasy», «admiration»). At the same time, the company clarified the main technical characteristics of its debut electric cars.

Impeto and Estasi are co-platform models, having about 70% of common components. The overall length of the crossover is 5050 mm, the sedan — 5060 mm. The height of the crossover is 1620 mm, the sedan — 1450 mm. The width and wheelbase of Impeto and Estasi are the same — 2000 mm and 3025 mm, respectively. The flat battery is located in the floor and has an advanced cooling system. The battery capacity is 120 kW h, the range on one charge of both models will be about 800 km. The maximum charging power is 350 kW. The power plant is three-motor: one electric motor is installed on the front axle, two — on the rear, the maximum combined output of the electric motors is 600 kW (816 hp). Acceleration to 100 km/h will take less than 3 s, the maximum speed is 260 km/h. The crossover will weigh around 2,300 kg, the sedan – 2,200 kg.

The Impeto and Estasi bodies have a single-volume profile and lifting doors of the butterfly type with frameless glass. The bodies are almost entirely made of carbon fiber. Looking at the one-piece molded sidewalls of Aehra electric vehicles, their repairability is highly questionable. Meanwhile, Aehra claims to be the first mass producer of passenger cars with carbon fiber bodies — the company intends to produce 20,000 — 25,000 cars per year.

The interior design of both models has been greatly simplified compared to what we were shown earlier: the height-adjustable multifunctional monitor across the entire width of the cabin has disappeared from the dashboard, and has been replaced by a routine-looking instrument screen above the flattened steering wheel and a vertical multimedia screen on the center console. The trim has been simplified, small details have been worked out more carefully — in general, the design is being optimized as it approaches serial production. The only thing that has remained unchanged is the statement that the interiors of the crossover and sedan will be very spacious, they will comfortably accommodate up to five NBA basketball players.

Aehra also announced that it had chosen a site for the construction of its plant: it will be located in the Italian town of Mosciano Sant'Angelo in the Abruzzo region. The cost of the plant is estimated at 1.2 billion euros, while the company's management expects that part of the investment will be taken on by the Italian government as part of the program to support and develop the national auto industry — the corresponding application has already been submitted, construction is planned to begin at the end of this year. The Aehra plant will create 540 jobs, with another 110 people needed for the expanded Milan headquarters.

Aehra expects to launch the Impeto and Estasi at the end of 2026, with a third model to go into production later – a supercar with a 96 kWh battery and a range of 670 km on a single charge. It is not yet known how much Impeto and Estasi will cost: the lower limit of 160,000 euros was previously mentioned. It is hard to imagine that the new brand could sell 20,000 — 25,000 cars per year with such a price tag, but the company is counting on a wide sales geography: priority markets are Europe, the USA and the Middle East.
