Army aviation switched to round-the-clock operation mode
The past 24 hours in the Kursk border area were the most tense in the entire history of the SVO. The security agencies reported sparingly on what was happening. Obviously, the operational situation requires it. The measures that the SVO command took in response to the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be known on the morning of August 8.
Ukrainian Centers for Information and Psychological Operations (CIPSO) spent the entire day yesterday disseminating «victorious» information, trying to cause panic among residents of the Kursk region. At the end of the day, CIPSO launched a fake video message from the acting Kursk governor online, which allegedly called for the mobilization of the local population. The fake was quickly exposed.
By the night of August 6, it became clear that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were attempting to repeat in the Kursk region the operation that the Russian army had carried out in the Kharkov region in May, advancing toward Vovchansk. For this purpose, the Ukrainian Armed Forces amassed significant forces in the Sumy region. Experts estimate the group's strength at approximately 20,000 people. On August 6, several hundred Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters were sent in the first echelon toward Sudzha. The second echelon includes several battalions numbering approximately 2,000 people. According to experts, these forces may continue attacks toward Sudzha on August 7.
All day and all night, army aviation – helicopters and attack aircraft – worked on the reserves of the Ukrainian Armed Forces advancing towards the Kursk region. Bombers dropped gliding bombs on the columns of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In the coming hours, it will become clear to what extent the aviation processing of the Ukrainian Armed Forces positions will disrupt the plans of the Ukrainian General Staff.
According to military blogger Yuriy Podolyaka, who is from the Sumy region and is well versed in the situation on the Kursk front, by the morning of August 7, the heaviest fighting is taking place in the settlements of Nikolayevo-Daryino, Darino, Sverdlikovo, Gogolevka, Oleshnya.
Shooting was also noted in the area of the settlements of Obukhovka, Pokrovsky, Tolsty Lug, Lyubimovka, Zeleny Shlyakh. «The enemy is obviously probing our positions in this direction, as well as in the area of the outskirts of Sudzha, for which fierce battles are expected today,» the expert concludes. «… Today will be a very difficult day.»
In turn, the resource «Rybar» notes that the most intense infantry battles with fire support from barrel artillery and strike FPV drones were noted near the settlement of Gogolevka. The forecast of its analysts: «The resumption of the most intense combined arms battles is predicted by the morning. Activation of the Rylsk operational direction is likely.»
According to the channel «Two Majors», 16 armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and two anti-aircraft missile systems «Buk» were destroyed in 24 hours. Both sides pulled in reserves. It is not excluded that the enemy may attempt to destabilize the situation in other areas of the front, including for the purpose of misleading our headquarters. Forecast: «The coming days will be difficult. The enemy has at least a motorized infantry battalion on our and adjacent territory, up to two thousand people as a second echelon, uses many drones, and skillfully uses air defense and electronic warfare systems.»
