SIMFEROPOL, August 9 The head of the pathology department of Sevastopol City Hospital No. 5 has been arrested on charges of receiving bribes in excess of 1 million rubles, the Crimean Main Investigative Department of the Russian Investigative Committee reports.
«It has been established that the head of the department received more than 1 million rubles from the orderly for tacit permission to take money from people providing funeral services for performing posthumous makeup on the bodies of the deceased,» the report says.
The man has been charged with receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. «The court has chosen a preventive measure for him in the form of detention. The suspect's involvement in the commission of other crimes is being established,» the Investigative Committee noted.
The city prosecutor's office specified that the accused had received bribes totaling about 1.3 million rubles.
«As the investigation believes, for several years, while holding the position of head of the department — a pathologist of the pathology department, he provided general patronage and gave tacit permission to the orderly to perform paid research and posthumous makeup of the bodies of their deceased relatives,» the report says.
Earlier, according to the prosecutor's office, the head of the Sevastopol city bureau of forensic medical examination was sent to custody.
The criminal activity of these individuals was identified and stopped by FSB and MIA officers with the forceful support of the Russian National Guard.
