MOSCOW, August 9 Russian airports are planned to be completely transferred to domestic software, the head of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, told reporters on the sidelines of the World Forum «Digital Evolution».
«Of course it is planned,» said Shadayev, commenting on the possible transition of Russian airports to domestic software in the wake of Microsoft's latest large-scale failure.
In July, a global outage of Windows-based equipment began, affecting telecom operators, banks, and airlines around the world. The American company Crowd Strike confirmed that the global outage in Windows was caused by an update to the Falcon Sensor cybersecurity application.
Russian companies, including airports, that use foreign software faced minor problems in their work, and there were flight delays.
In July, the State Duma Committee on Information Policy recommended adopting in the first reading a bill on the transition of subjects of the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation to the use of Russian software for security purposes. If adopted, it will come into force on March 1.
According to Shadayev, after the bill is adopted, each industry department will develop plans for setting deadlines for the implementation of each standard software solution depending on its level of readiness.
