MOSCOW, August 10Gazprom continues to supply gas for transit through the territory of Ukraine via the Sudzha gas metering station in the volume confirmed by the Ukrainian side: as of August 10 – 39.6 million cubic meters, which is slightly higher than the volumes of the previous day, according to a statement from the company's official representative Sergei Kupriyanov.
Since the beginning of the year, pumping has remained above 40 million cubic meters per day, but on August 7 it fell below this level, to 39.4 million cubic meters, on August 8 – to 37.3 million cubic meters, on August 9 – it increased to 38.5 million cubic meters.
«Gazprom «supplies Russian gas for transit through the territory of Ukraine in the volume confirmed by the Ukrainian side through the Sudzha GIS — 39.6 million cubic meters as of August 10. The application for the Sokhranovka GIS was rejected,” he told reporters.
In May 2022, Ukraine stopped accepting gas for transit through the Sokhranovka GIS, citing the fact that it is under the control of Russian forces (on the territory of the LPR). As a result, only one entrance remains for gas transit to Europe — the Sudzha GIS. Gazprom stated that transferring all volumes to Sudzha is technologically impossible.
At the same time, the transit agreement between Gazprom and Ukraine assumes that the guaranteed daily pumping volume (from both sides) from 2021 is 109.6 million cubic meters.
Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov said that on August 6 at 5.30 a.m., Ukrainian Armed Forces units numbering up to a thousand people launched an offensive to seize territory in the Sudzhansky District of the Kursk Region. Their advance into Russian territory has been stopped, he noted. Also on Tuesday, the border town of Sudzha was subjected to repeated massive shelling from Ukraine. On Wednesday, the head of the town called the situation in the town «very tense.» The supply route through the Sudzha gas metering station is currently the only one for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe. Gazprom supplied around 14.9 billion cubic meters of gas via this route last year, which, according to Eurostat, was around 4.5% of EU consumption.
