MOSCOW, August 10 Russia has been supplying more than 1 million tons of fertilizers to Brazil for the third month in a row, with the volume of deliveries reaching a historic high in July, according to Brazilian customs data.
Thus, sales of Russian fertilizers to Brazil this year for the first time reached 1 million tons in May, in June they increased by 5%, and in July — by another 7.5%, to 1.14 million tons. The July volume was the highest for the entire period of trade between the two countries (the previous historical maximum was in May 2022).
In monetary terms, exports grew by 8% to $364.4 million, breaking the record since March 2023.
Russia remains the main supplier of fertilizers to Brazil, while China is also actively increasing its share of the local market. In July, supplies from there jumped 1.9 times — to 783.4 thousand tons.
The top five largest fertilizer exporters to Brazil also include Canada (plus 1%, 697 thousand tons), Egypt (minus 29%, 290 thousand tons) and Morocco (minus 7%, 281 thousand tons).
In recent months, Brazil as a whole has been significantly increasing its fertilizer imports due to worsening weather conditions and, as a result, crop yields for various crops: in June and July, the volume of supplies was the highest for these months for the entire period of statistics — 4.2 and 4.5 million tons, respectively.
