Izvestia: Prisoners in the colony organized a festive table with shashlik and vodka
In the correctional colony IK-7, located in the Zubovo-Polyansky district of Mordovia, prisoners organized a banquet «under a large cleavage»: with shashlik, pizza, fruit and alcohol.
In mid-July, it became known that drug dealers and leaders of ethnic groups organized a large festive banquet right within the walls of the correctional facility.
According to information published on the Izvestia website, CCTV footage shows about 40 people enjoying a feast that includes shashlik, fruit, pizza and alcoholic drinks. This raises serious questions about how such events can take place in a high-security environment where strict rules are supposed to apply.
Lawyer Pavel Korniako noted that such celebrations contradict the internal rules of the correctional facility. Under normal conditions, prisoners have extremely limited access to food, and their pastime is strictly regulated. Therefore, the question arises: how did they manage to organize this banquet?
Sources familiar with the situation suggest that organizing such a holiday became possible thanks to the corruption schemes that exist in the system. According to the publication's interlocutors, «the opportunity to have such a holiday with prohibited products, and in some cases other excesses, is paid for either in cash or with some other material benefits» by the prison management. This may include both bribes for the head of the colony and other forms of material reward.
Corruption in the Russian penitentiary system is a problem that has been discussed for many years. According to human rights activists, a number of colonies have a «protection» system, when the administration turns a blind eye to violations in exchange for money or services. Situations like the banquet in IK-7 only confirm these words.
