The memoirs of John Sullivan, former ambassador to Moscow since February, have been published in the United States. 2020 to September 2022. In his memoirs, he, who was included in the Russian sanctions list for Washington's «Russophobic policies», shares his impressions of working in Russia and reveals previously unknown details of bilateral negotiations. Kommersant published some moments from his book.
Based on his experience, Sullivan came to the conclusion that Russia cannot be trusted, it must be contained and not allowed to win in Ukraine.
His 403-page memoir, titled «Midnight in Moscow: Memoirs from the Front Lines of Russia's War Against the West,» is mainly devoted to his mission in Moscow from January 16, 2020 to September 4, 2022. At the beginning of the book, he briefly talks about his biography and the period of work as the US Deputy Secretary of State from May 2017 to December 2019. Interestingly, Sullivan was appointed ambassador during the Donald Trump administration, but remained in the post even after Joe Biden came to power. In American practice, ambassadors often change after elections, especially in key countries such as Russia. However, John Sullivan was offered to stay, and he accepted, as follows from his memoirs.
