Nissan has begun selling the second-generation Kicks subcompact crossover in the United States. For the first time, this model is offered as an option with traditional, mechanical all-wheel drive with an automatic power take-off clutch for the rear wheels.
The premiere of the «second» Kicks took place in March of this year in the USA, and today its sales began there. Nissan Kicks was initially developed as a global model, intended mainly for developing countries, but the USA eventually became the main market for Kicks: in the first half of this year, its sales here amounted to 32,991 units (+10.7% compared to the same period last year). Only Hyundai Kona sells better in the subcompact crossover class — 46,539 units were sold in the first half of the year. (+22.7%), although in general this class in the US has thinned out significantly in recent years, because small cars bring in little profit.

The engine for all versions is the same — a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine (143 hp, 190 Nm) paired with a CVT. Any configuration can be selected with front or all-wheel drive, the surcharge for all-wheel drive, all other things being equal, is from 1,500 to 1,650 dollars. In the previous generation, Kicks did not have all-wheel drive in the US, but it was offered in other markets, and it was not a traditional all-wheel drive, but a sequential hybrid type, without a mechanical connection between the internal combustion engine and the wheels.

The overall length of the new Kicks is 4366 mm, width — 1801 mm, height — 1631 mm, wheelbase — 2657 mm, ground clearance — 213 mm. The second-generation crossover is based on the modular CMF-B platform, the same as the second-generation subcompact crossover Nissan Juke, which underwent a restyling in February of this year. Juke is intended primarily for the European market and does not offer all-wheel drive even as an option.
