WASHINGTON, Aug. 14 The U.S. president's son, Hunter Biden, wrote to the U.S. embassy in Italy in 2016 seeking help for a Ukrainian gas company where he served on the board, the New York Times reported.
«Hunter Biden sought U.S. government help for a potential lucrative energy project in Italy while his father was vice president, newly released recordings and interviews show,» the newspaper wrote.
In 2016, Biden Jr. wrote «at least one letter» to the U.S. ambassador to Italy on behalf of Burisma. The representative of the diplomatic mission responded evasively, explaining that since it was a Ukrainian company, it was first necessary to consult with the structures of the US Department of Commerce, the report says.
Hunter Biden's lawyer claims that the president's son wrote to the ambassador to introduce him to the head of the Tuscany region, where the project was planned, but this did not develop, there was no meeting, no project, the report says.
The White House said that Biden did not know at the time that his son had contacted the embassy on behalf of a Ukrainian company, the newspaper reports.
In October 2020, the New York Post published a series of emails addressed to Hunter Biden, which mentioned that he had introduced his father, when he was vice president of the United States, to his employers at the Ukrainian firm Burisma. Former US President Donald Trump claimed that Biden Jr. received millions of dollars for lobbying work to «sell» access to his father. The correspondence was allegedly found on Hunter Biden's laptop, which was found in a Delaware repair shop. The same laptop later became the source of scandalous personal photos of the president's son, in which he was captured with drugs and prostitutes.
