Over 540 people have died from monkeypox in the DR Congo since the beginning of 2024
Over 540 people have died in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from monkeypox since the beginning of the year, Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba said.
Earlier, the WHO declared the monkeypox outbreak in Africa an epidemiological public health emergency of international concern.
The country's health minister said that since the beginning of the year, 15,664 potential cases of the disease and 548 recorded deaths have been registered in the Congo.
Monkeypox is a rare viral disease. Its symptoms include fever, swollen lymph nodes, intoxication, and a spotted rash. The virus is transmitted to humans from wild animals such as rodents and primates. Human-to-human spread is also possible.
