MOSCOW, August 14 Russia's political system has proven to be much more resilient than the West predicted, writes the American magazine Foreign Affairs.
«Events since the start of the war indicate that the Russian regime is much more resilient than many predicted,» the magazine says.
The evidence for this, according to the author of the article, is particularly convincing. «The Kremlin has overcome many politically difficult moments and even existential crises and emerged from them relatively unscathed,» the author writes.
According to him, the crises have demonstrated not only the firm rule of Russian President Vladimir Putin, but also the ability of the political system to respond and reorient itself.
«The most characteristic feature… (of Putin's presidency — ed.) is invulnerability… It is the stability of the regime and its demonstrated ability to adapt,» the article says.
Russia has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the sanctions pressure, which continues to intensify. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously noted that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. In Western countries themselves, opinions have repeatedly been voiced that sanctions are ineffective.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called its goal «the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.» He noted that the special operation was a forced measure; Russia “was left with no chance to act differently; the security risks created were such that it was impossible to respond by other means.”
