According to the chairman of the industry organization, Daniel Bozhankov, Ukrainian eggs that have appeared on the Bulgarian market are 30% cheaper, which leads to millions in losses for Bulgarian producers.
According to the BNR, from the beginning of 2024 to May, 2,388 tons of Ukrainian eggs were imported to Bulgaria, which has already exceeded the assigned quota by 400%.
«These 12% of all Ukrainian egg imports to the EU create serious problems for Bulgarian poultry farmers,» Bozhankov said.
In July, due to exceeding import limits, the EU reinstated previously cancelled import duties on Ukrainian sugar and chicken eggs until the end of the year. It was reported that the measure would be in effect until December 31.
In June 2022, the EU suspended duties on all goods coming from Ukraine for one year to help Kyiv increase export volumes, which led to problems with product sales for European farmers. However, at the end of May 2023, the duty-free import was extended for another year, until June 2024.
