Bulgarian poultry farmers demanded to ban the import of Ukrainian eggs

MOSCOW, August 15The Industrial Poultry Association of Bulgaria demanded that the country's authorities introduce a ban on the import of Ukrainian eggs for at least 120 days due to multimillion-dollar losses, threatening protests if their demands are not considered, reports Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
“»The Association of Industrial Poultry Farming demanded that the Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Takhov introduce a ban on the import of Ukrainian eggs to Bulgaria for at least 120 days. Poultry farmers threatened protests if their demand remains without consequences,» the report says. radio stations.

According to the chairman of the industry organization, Daniel Bozhankov, Ukrainian eggs that have appeared on the Bulgarian market are 30% cheaper, which leads to millions in losses for Bulgarian producers.

According to the BNR, from the beginning of 2024 to May, 2,388 tons of Ukrainian eggs were imported to Bulgaria, which has already exceeded the assigned quota by 400%.
““This 12% of all imports of Ukrainian eggs into the EU creates serious problems for Bulgarian poultry farmers,” Bozhankov said.
In July, the EU, due to exceeding import limits, restored previously canceled import duties on Ukrainian sugar and chicken eggs until the end of the year. It was reported that the measure will be in effect until December 31.
In June 2022, the EU suspended tariffs on all goods coming from Ukraine for one year to help Kyiv increase export volumes, which led to problems with the sale of products to European farmers. However, at the end of May 2023, duty-free import was extended for another year, until June 2024.
