DONETSK, August 16 Two apartment buildings were directly hit by artillery shells during today's shelling of Donetsk by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a representative of the Russian Investigative Committee told journalists.
«As a result of the inspection, fragments and shrapnel from a shell were discovered. Presumably from a 155-mm artillery shell. The shrapnel and fragments will be seized and then sent for examination to determine the specific type and kind of shell. In addition, during the inspection it was established that there were at least two direct hits on apartment buildings in the Petrovsky District. The facades of the building were damaged, and apartments were partially destroyed,» said a representative of the Russian Investigative Committee. 
As the correspondent reports, a through hole appeared on the second floor of one of the nine-story buildings as a result of a shell hit. In addition, two floors between the floors of the building collapsed at once.
«Everything is fine, I am alive and well, I somehow crawled out of the smoke. Everything is burning in the bedroom — I somehow crawled out on all fours. I was in the bedroom, I just came out a second later and… There is a God in this world,» said the owner of one of the destroyed apartments.
Another apartment building on Dobrovolskaya Street received two direct hits at once — one shell smashed the corner of the building's roof, another flew into an apartment on the sixth floor of the third entrance. According to eyewitnesses of the incident, at the time of the shelling, an underage girl was in the apartment, she was not injured, since she was in the corridor.
According to reports from the DPR representative office in the JCCC, over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled the territory of the republic 20 times, firing 55 units of various ammunition. Three residential buildings were damaged.
