
MOSCOW, August 18 French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences over the death of actor Alain Delon, calling him not just a star, but a «French monument,» Macron wrote on the social network X.
Earlier, French media reported that the famous French actor Alain Delon had died at the age of 88. Details of the death of the legend of French cinema have not yet been given. 
«Alain Delon played legendary roles and made the world dream, giving us his unforgettable face and shaking our lives. Melancholic, popular, mysterious — he was more than a star, he became a French monument,» Macron said.
French Culture Minister Rachida Dati also responded to Delon's death on the social network X, noting that the actor left France orphaned without the most beautiful embodiment of the country on screen, and stressing that Dati herself lost in Delon not only a great artist, but also a family friend.
The leader of the parliamentary faction «National Rally» Marine Le Pen lamented that the golden age of French cinema, which the actor so accurately personified, has passed away with Delon.
French theater and film actor, director and screenwriter Alain Delon gained the greatest fame thanks to his roles in the films «Rocco and His Brothers» (1960), «In the Bright Sun» (1960), «Samurai» (1967), «Two in the City» (1973). Alain Delon is the winner of the «César» award for the film «Our Story» and the honorary prize of the International Berlin Film Festival. At the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, Delon won the honorary Palme d'Or for his contribution to cinema.
