MOSCOW, August 16 Ukraine should pay for the damage to the German economy after the Nord Stream explosions, said Alice Weidel, co-chair of the German right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD), on the social network X.
“Ukraine should pay for the economic damage to our country due to the explosions of the Nord Streams, apparently on the orders of Zelensky, and not Putin, as we were assured. Any financial support that falls on the shoulders of German taxpayers should stop,” she wrote.
The day before, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that the idea of blowing up the Nord Streams arose among senior Ukrainian officers under the influence of alcohol. In a separate article, the newspaper wrote that Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that the explosion be stopped, but Ukrainian General Valeriy Zaluzhny disobeyed his order.
German media reported that the German prosecutor's office issued an arrest warrant for Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Zh. in the case of gas pipeline explosions. One of the publications published his photo, which made it possible to establish that we are talking about diver Volodymyr Zhuravlev from Kyiv. It is also reported that his accomplices were a married couple: Svetlana and Yevgeny Uspensky.
The explosions on two Russian export gas pipelines to Europe — Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 — occurred on September 26, 2022. Germany, Denmark and Sweden did not rule out targeted sabotage. Nord Stream AG, the operator of Nord Stream AG, reported that the destruction of the gas pipelines was unprecedented, and it was impossible to estimate the repair time. The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has initiated a case on an act of international terrorism. Russia has repeatedly requested data on the explosions at Nord Stream, but has never received it, said Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president.
