Putin Appoints Sergei Butin First Deputy Foreign Minister

MOSCOW, August 17 President Vladimir Putin has appointed Sergei Butin as Russia's First Deputy Foreign Minister; the corresponding decree was posted on the website for the official publication of legal acts.
«To appoint Sergei Vladimirovich Butin as First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, relieving him of his current position,» the document says.
The decree comes into force on the day of its signing, August 17.

Butin was born in 1964. He graduated from the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov in 1987 and has been working at the Foreign Ministry since 1996. In 2010-2011, he was the Consul General of Russia in Niigata, Japan, and in 2011-2013, he held the position of Minister-Counselor of the Embassy in Japan. In 2013-2017, he was Deputy Director of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then headed this unit, also becoming a member of the board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since May 2023, he has held the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
