VIENNA, Dec 3 The current head of the Austrian Ministry of Internal Affairs Karl Nehammer will lead the Austrian People's Party (ANP) after the final departure of the former chancellor Sebastian Kurz from politics and will become the next chancellor of the republic, according to the TV and radio corporation ORF. The decision was taken at a meeting of the ANP board on Friday. On Thursday, long-term chairman of the Austrian People's Party, Sebastian Kurz, said he was resigning. This came after he resigned as chancellor in October amid an anti-corruption investigation. The politician noted that on Friday he will transfer his powers as the head of the ANP. Schallenberg announced his readiness to resign, expressing his conviction that the functions of the party chairman and head of government should be concentrated in one hand. Later, Gernot Blumel, an associate of Kurz, announced his resignation from the post of finance minister. The post of Minister of Education promises to become vacant. According to media reports, the Austrian Ministry of Finance should be headed by Magnus Brunner, the Ministry of the Interior — Gerhard Karner, the Ministry of Education — Martin Polasek. They are all members of the Austrian People's Party.
