Now the department, together with the Ministry of Digital Industry and other departments, is working on the introduction of a new document: a plastic card with an electronic storage medium. As Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko explained, on such a card, which will have several degrees of protection against counterfeiting, the person's personal data and his photograph will be entered. If desired, it will be possible to add other information to the chip's memory — for example, TIN, SNILS or driver's license number. The electronic document will have the same legal status as the current paper identity card. 
The lawyer explained who is not entitled to demand a copy of your passport. According to Chernyshenko, from the beginning of 2023 digital passports will begin to be issued in three pilot regions — Moscow, Moscow region and Tatarstan, they can be used anywhere At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister added, the replacement of a paper document with a smart card will occur at will.
