Former Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General of the Army Anatoly Kvashnin, died of coronavirus at the age of 76. This is reported by TASS.

Kvashnin headed the General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense from 1997 to 2004 — during the First and Second Chechen Wars. In September 2004, the general was appointed Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District.
In addition, in 1999 he took part in planning the operation of a battalion of Russian paratroopers to take control of the Slatina airport in Kosovo.
In 1995-1997, Kvashnin commanded the troops of the North Caucasian Military District. Prior to that, the military man worked as deputy chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff and led the United Group of Russian Forces in Chechnya.
