Two new lawsuits against NATO from victims of the 1999 depleted uranium bombings will be filed with the Supreme Court in Belgrade, lawyer Srdjan Aleksic told RIA Novosti. uranium, was filed on January 20, 2021. We are talking about a cancer officer of the Yugoslav army, whose name is not disclosed in the interests of the process. A lawyer from the city of Niš Srdjan Aleksic has been working on the collection of evidence for several years. The President of Serbia said that no one answered for the bombing of Yugoslavia «We are filing two new lawsuits in Belgrade on January 20 from two victims and we hope that then we will file two or three each month. It takes time and money for an expert on explosives and means of destruction, as well as the conclusion of a medical examiner. It is necessary to clearly prove that in the place where the plaintiffs were, NATO bombed with depleted uranium. It is also necessary to prove that the cancer in the plaintiffs was caused by radiation from NATO uranium, «the lawyer told the agency. Serbian territory used depleted uranium, although it could have used conventional weapons, having superiority in power, but they used weapons that have a long-term detrimental effect and there will be consequences for the entire population for millions of years. This is a war crime and the North Atlantic Alliance must compensate the citizens of Serbia «, — said Aleksich. According to him, the lawsuit filed in January last year was sent to the headquarters from NATO, but the lawyer still has no information about obtaining it. He clarified that the court can deliver the claim through the NATO representation at the Serbian Defense Ministry or by other legal means. According to the lawyer, Serbian legislation allows the Supreme Court in Belgrade to pass a NATO verdict, regardless of NATO's participation in the process, if it does not respond to the lawsuit, as was the case for Western European servicemen who received a dangerous dose of radiation while serving in NATO near radioactive ammunition. and in the field of their application, Aleksic plans to obtain compensation for each of the Serbian victims in the amount of at least 300 thousand euros. The Serbian lawyer is assisted by the Italian lawyer Angelo Fiore Tartaglia, who successfully represented the interests of the Italian military and achieved 253 court decisions, which have already entered into force in Europe. According to Tartaglia, in Italy the number of soldiers who contracted cancer is 7.6 thousand, about 400 of them, he represents the interests of 500 people. These are diseases caused by the use of depleted uranium in Italian soldiers who served in the Balkans from Bosnia and Herzegovina, where NATO first used depleted uranium, to Kosovo and Metohija. According to lawyers, the ruling of the Belgrade District Court in 2001 is a great help to these claims. NATO leaders such as US General Wesley Clark and ex-NATO Secretary General Javier Solana were found guilty of war crimes against the population of Serbia. The materials of this case accurately list the dates and places of the use of depleted uranium shells by NATO aircraft.
