TALLINN, 15 Jan. Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva won the gold medal in women's singles at her debut European Championships. The competition ended in Tallinn. According to the results of two programs, the world record holder scored 259.06 points: 90.45 for the short program and 168.61 for the free program. The second and third places were also taken by representatives of Russia — Anna Shcherbakova (237.42; 69.05 + 168.37) and Alexandra Trusova (234.36; 75.13 + 159.23). Valieva spends her first season at the adult level. The fifteen-year-old figure skater became the champion of Russia, the winner of the Grand Prix series in Russia and Canada, as well as the Challenger series tournament in Finland. Seventeen-year-old Shcherbakova, who broke a personal record for the number of points in the free program (previous achievement — 165.05), won the stages of the Grand Prix series in France and Italy, and also became the bronze medalist of the Russian championship. Trusova, her age, won the gold of the Grand Prix series in the USA and the silver of the Russian championship. The Russians took the entire podium at the second European Championship in a row. At the 2020 tournament, Alena Kostornaya, Shcherbakova and Trusova won medals. In 2021, competitions were not held due to the pandemic. At the Beijing Olympics, which will be held from February 4 to 20, three Russians will compete in women's singles. The decision on the composition of the Games will be made after the European Championship.
