Gavrilov appealed to the OSCE Secretary General due to blocking on Facebook

Facebook social network logoMOSCOW, Jan 17The head of the Russian delegation at the talks in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, appealed to OSCE Secretary General Helge Schmidt with a request to support Russia due to the blocking of the delegation's Facebook page. The Facebook administration previously restricted access to the official page of the delegation, created by the Russian Foreign Ministry, allegedly for publishing prohibited content. Roskomnadzor demanded that the company Meta, which owns the social network, remove restrictions from the account.

"We ask the Secretary General, Ms. H. Schmid, to support our legitimate request with her authority. This is a blatant act of censorship in the information space. Thank you in advance for your support!" — said Gavrilov, whose words are quoted on Twitter of the Russian delegation.

Separately, the Permanent Mission of Russia to the OSCE noted that it «with regret» learned about the blocking of the account of the delegation. Diplomats noted that there is another example of illegitimate censorship of the information space. «Dear OSCE Media Representative (Teresa Ribeiro), it is very dangerous not to notice the politically motivated restrictive activities of IT companies,» the permanent mission noted. «/>Aksyonov called Facebook an unfriendly networkAt the beginning of the week, a series of consultations took place between Russia, the United States and NATO on security guarantees: on January 9-10, the issue was discussed in Geneva at meetings with the American side, on January 12 at a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council in Brussels, and on January 13 — at the OSCE platform. The main topic of discussion was the draft treaty with the United States and the agreement with NATO, which the Russian side sent to Washington and its allies at the end of last year. The Kremlin insists on ending the bloc's military cooperation with the post-Soviet countries, refusing to create bases on their territory, limiting the deployment of strike weapons near the Russian border, removing American nuclear weapons from Europe, and guaranteeing NATO's non-expansion to the east. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West promised to give written answers to the Russian proposals next week. As the minister emphasized, Moscow needs a specific answer to each article of the documents put forward — the further actions of the Russian side and the prospects for the resumption of negotiations will depend on this. in Vienna named the reason for blocking her Facebook page
