MOSCOW, 17 Jan. The annual income of foreign companies Google and Meta in Russia is 144.4 and 39.8 billion rubles, respectively, the Russian court calculated. The published texts of the court decisions do not say for which year the figures are given. In both rulings, the judge concluded that it was necessary to fine the companies 5% of their total income. In December, a Russian court imposed a turnover fine on an IT company for the first time: Google was fined 7.2 billion rubles for repeatedly not deleting prohibited information. A few hours later, Meta received a negotiable fine for similar violations — almost two billion rubles. The total amount of Google fines is already estimated at billions of rubles. They were previously discharged, including for not removing prohibited content, including calls for extremism, and refusing to localize the personal data of Russians on servers in the country. At the end of last year, Roskomnadzor emphasized that Facebook and Instagram, owned by Meta, and Google had 4.6 thousands of unremoved prohibited materials — they face repeated turnover fines.
