Ontario premier condemns use of 'hate symbols'

MOSCOW, Feb 1Canadian Ontario Premier Doug Ford condemned the use of «hate symbols» in Ottawa's ongoing coronavirus protests. The latter demanded that the authorities remove all restrictions related to the pandemic and vaccination of the population, which, according to them, are contrary to the country's constitution. The action was generally peaceful. However, the police launched several criminal investigations into the protesters. One of the investigations is dedicated to the desecration of a war memorial.Protesters in Canada danced at the National War Memorial «I was extremely disturbed to see some desecrate our most sacred monuments and brandish swastikas and other symbols of hate and intolerance this weekend. There is no place for this in Ontario or Canada. Not now, not ever or,” Ford said in a statement to Global News. According to the channel, during Saturday’s demonstration, a Confederate flag (the flag of the slave South during the Civil War era) flew on one of the trucks, some protesters waved Nazi symbols and slogans. Ottawa police are currently conducting a criminal investigation into several incidents during the protests, including the «desecration» of the national war memorial and the statue of Canadian activist Terrence Fox, the channel notes. Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was shocked by the numerous incidents of vandalism and threats against small business employees during protests.CBC News: Canada's PM Changes Residence Due to National Protests
