Earlier, FINA announced the suspension of Rylov from competitions under the auspices of the organization for 9 months for participating in a gala concert in honor of the Day of the reunification of Crimea with Russia, which took place on March 18 at Luzhniki. As later reported in FINA, Rylov cannot participate in the Russian championship, but he is allowed to take part in Russian starts that are not controlled by FINA. On Monday, the athlete took part in the 100m backstroke and took third place. «FINA has verified the participation of Mr. Rylov in the Russian Swimming Championship. No additional sanctions will be applied to him. The Russian Swimming Championship was not an event sanctioned FINA, it is not associated with any FINA start, in accordance with the decision of the FINA Bureau on April 21 to remove Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from FINA competitions until the end of 2022,» the FINA press service said.
