Andrey SenchenkoSport correspondentAll materialsEmail to the author The Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has applied new sanctions against Russian clubs and teams. In the coming year, Russia will be isolated from the Old World. You can forget about European cups Back in February, UEFA, together with the International Football Federation (FIFA), decided to remove Russian clubs and teams from participating in competitions under their auspices. So, the Russian team said goodbye to the idea of getting to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and Spartak with participation in the playoffs of the current Europa League. Today, UEFA announced a new executive committee's verdict, disappointing for Russian football. According to it:
- — The Russian national team will not participate in the second group of Division B of the 2022/23 Nations League and will automatically take the last, fourth place in the quartet, which includes the teams of Iceland, Israel and Albania. Thus, the Russian team will go down in rank and drop to last place in the ranking of the entire division;
- —Club Tournaments — Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, Women's Champions League and Youth UEFA League — next season will be held without the participation of Russian teams. Lists of admission to these competitions will be redistributed. So, Zenit St. Petersburg, which has already issued the title of Russian champion ahead of schedule, will not play in the group stage of the Champions League, and the best team in Scotland will take its place;
- Russian football will be given a number of coefficient points equivalent to the lowest number they have scored in any of the last five seasons. Thus, for the 2022/23 season, 4.333 points will be awarded for the men's association and 1.750 points for the women's;
- — The youth team of Russia will not perform at Euro 2023. After six matches in the qualifying round, the Russians take second place in Group C. Their results will be annulled, and the group will continue to consist of five teams — Spain, Slovakia, Malta, Northern Ireland and Lithuania. Also, the Russians were suspended from participating in the championships of the 2022/23 season among boys under 17 and 19 years old. Similar measures have been applied to women's competitions with the participation of Russian women of the corresponding age groups;
- —The Russian women's team will not compete in the final round of Euro 2022, and will not participate in any of the following matches of the European qualification for the 2023 World Cup. After six matches, the Russians are in second place in Group E, but all their results are now invalidated. Now only five of the six members of the group will remain — the teams of Denmark, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malta and Azerbaijan;
- —Sanctions have also affected futsal. Thus, Russian clubs will not be represented in the 2022/23 Champions League, nor will the national team play at the 2024 World Cup. The same applies to the women's team — they were suspended from participating in Euro 2022.
