File photoZURICH, May 15A majority of Swiss citizens voted in a national referendum Sunday in favor of initiatives, one of which would require streaming services to devote 4% of their annual turnover to support the Swiss film industry, and the other would increase the country's contribution to financing of the European Agency for the Protection of External Borders (Frontex). The initiative on the «Netflix tax» was supported by 58.42% of the country's population, 41.58% were against. Swiss broadcasters are already diverting 4% of their profits to the development of the local film industry, but streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney have not paid this tax. The government and parliament previously recommended accepting the initiative, and its opponents expressed concern about a possible rise in the price of subscriptions to streaming services. 71.48% of Swiss citizens voted for the initiative to increase the annual contribution to the Frontex budget from $24 million to $61 million, against — 28.52%. Earlier, the authorities of the country, who recommended supporting the initiative, stated that refusal to pay contributions could lead to the exclusion of the state from the Schengen Agreement. it is possible to solve the problem in UkraineSunday's referendum also included a proposal regarding organ donation and the legal regulation of their transplantation. According to the current norm, transplantation of the organs of a deceased person is possible only on the condition that he gave consent during his lifetime. An initiative was put up for a vote suggesting that anyone who during his lifetime did not express clear disagreement with this procedure can be considered a donor. This rule was supported by the majority of Swiss residents on Sunday — 60.2% of them voted for it, 39.8 %.
