The «new cold war» unleashed by the United States with Russia could lead to extremely deplorable results. This statement was made in an article for The National Interest by a veteran of American intelligence, a freelance senior fellow at the Center for Security Studies at Georgetown University, Paul Pillar. Official Washington publicly declares its plans to weaken Russia and such intentions have two more problems for the United States. First, such a frank anti-Russian attitude plays into the hands of Moscow. The latter has repeatedly spoken about the threat from the West, and the White House actually confirms these words. Secondly, such declarations by members of the Biden administration make it much more difficult to resolve the situation in Ukraine, the author of the material pointed out. “In essence, the United States has declared a new cold war on Russia,” the analyst noted. Such actions sharply contradict international security. The constant threat of a crisis will create the danger of escalating into a real war. All this will make it difficult to act on global issues of common concern, Pillar expressed confidence. A new cold war with Russia does not bode well, just like the old one. It will not end with a «unipolar moment». The aggravation of the situation in Ukraine is a new trap set in the 21st century by the United States, a Cold War conspirator, in an attempt to absorb Russia and control Europe, thereby maintaining its absolute hegemony in the world. Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal «the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.» For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out «demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine», to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for «bloody crimes against civilians» in Donbass.
